Les vivants
Series of paintings, 2024
Baptiste Morizot, philosopher and essayist, defends the idea that we share with all living things the mystery of being a body.
the mystery of being a body. He sees animals as privileged intercessors between us
us and other living beings. Based on his writings, I've developed a series of paintings that explore
these relationships. The figures work in pairs, appearing through the line and seemingly
twins. Each pair expresses different narratives based on the cultural representations
representations we have inherited. The animals here are totemic and allegorical figures that
a sacred vision of living beings and our relationships.

Nicolas Mehdi Pour Vahid is a Franco-Iranian painter based in Paris. His work is deeply infused with childhood memories, blending his personal world with his love for manga and Japanese literary culture, as well as the familial environment of his mother’s workshop, where she restored religious icons.

Later, he discovered the dialogue of colors and the way they vibrate together—a skill he masterfully wields to create harmonious combinations.

His paintings, mostly figurative, depict landscapes that are both mysterious and poetic, where animals from an imaginary bestiary encounter humans bathed in light. Nature, omnipresent, provides a protective haven, guiding these figures on an initiatory journey and leading them back to itself. The figures, often young and solitary, evoke the melancholy of a bygone childhood. Nicolas Mehdi Pour Vahid captures their essence, whole and entirely within his line, projecting them into life with minimal representation. Centered within his compositions, these figures remind him of the religious icons that once filled his mother’s workshop.

The evocative power of Nicolas Mehdipour's work is profoundly compelling and contemplative, inviting viewers to share in this imaginative world of raw emotions. His art beckons us to embark on a journey toward innocence and purity, always marked by a distant horizon that serves as a promise.

After training in object design, Nicolas Mehdi Pour Vahid published a graphic novel with Apeiron Publishing in 2021. In 2022, he released a comic book with Bang Editions, distributed in France and Spain.
