THEMBA SIBEKO
Themba Sibeko is a self-taught South African artist who explores human connections through his figurative paintings. He has developed a keen sense of contemplation, allowing him to create narrative compositions that, through his staging work, capture a vision placing us at the heart of the story’s intimacy. To make his stories as universal as possible, he never depicts faces; instead, human emotions and interactions are conveyed through gestures, movement, and the attitudes of the various protagonists in his paintings. He does not seek to reproduce reality but shows us what his imagination retains from his vision of it.
The human body occupies a central role in his work. Although often symbolic and at times distorted, it serves as the cornerstone of his narratives and the emotions he crafts.
Sibeko describes his artworks as scenes from a film, each carefully designed to tell a specific story. This is why color plays such a crucial role in his work, providing a light that captivates and immediately immerses the viewer in his narrative.
